Cork produced a stunning comeback to collect their first points of the League a 2-13 to 0-16 over Clare at Cusack Park.
They achieved the victory despite Niall McCarthy's sending off after 47 minutes. Six points down with 11 minutes remaining, the Rebels scored 1-06 without reply to leave Clare still rooted to the bottom of the Division 1 table.
Not surprisingly given their absence from competitive hurling since last August, Cork's first touch was not evident early on and the Bannermen held the upper hand. Colin Ryan and Jonathan Clancy stood out for Mike Mac's side and they built up a lead of 0-07 to 0-04 after 25 minutes.
Indeed Ryan had 0-07 to his name by half-time with Clare leading by 0-11 to 0-06. This could have been more had Tony Griffin's pile driver gone under, instead of over the bar.
Clare continued to be the better side in the opening exchanges of the second period, even though Pat Horgan netted for Cork on 39 minutes.
Points from Ryan, Niall Gilligan and Tony Carmody gave the home side some extra breathing space but the Rebels found the net again after 58 minutes through Ben O'Connor's sideline cut.
The home side were now two points clear - 0-16 to 2-08 - but Cork were now clearly in the ascendency and points from Kieran Murphy, Pat Horgan and Ben O'Connor sealed a hard fought victory.
