Clare captured the Bord Gáis Energy Munster U21 Hurling Championship title with a 2-17 to 2-12 over rivals Waterford in a thrilling game at Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Wednesday night.
The coveted crown was up for grabs as late as the 58th minute, before The Banner’s Darach Honan took matters into his own hands to score a brilliant match-winning goal.
Cormac O’Donovan then added a late point to guarantee the win and the Clare contingent in the 6,635 strong crowd were sent into raptures.
Honan had earlier given Clare a seemingly unassailable 1-12 to 1-5 lead after grabbing the first of his two goals just after the break.
However, the Déise hit back and senior star Maurice Shanahan kept them in touch with 0-6 (0-5f), while Shane Casey’s goal had them level with just ten minutes left on the clock.
But when Honan cracked home his second goal of the night, the title was destined for Clare.
